This curriculum is recommended for Nursery – Grade 4 teachers and students who are interested in a journey through Jewish culture and ethnicities through Jewish music. The rich and diverse website highlighting Jewish music, tunes, and niggunim from around the world, with an accompanying book, teacher’s guide and Israeli musicians who will facilitate workshops in your communities, bring diverse Jewish culture to life.
בואי לגני, Come to My Garden and Gan (Kindergarten) is a formal and informal education curriculum that explores Jewish identity from a musical and ethnic perspective. ‘Bo’ee Le’ganee’
is a collation of songs from the Jewish tradition – ‘piyutim” – that reflect stories, heritage, longing for Israel from way back when. The ‘Boee L’ganee’ musicians have done an impressive job both in collation, availability, teacher training and more.
There are hundreds of ethnic songs, poems, and playlists from around the globe that highlight the various tunes and ‘niggunim’ from Sefardi, Yemenite, and Ashkenazi cultures throughout history. The curriculum discusses ideas such as volunteering, Jewish holidays, and more, all through prayer, poem and song. Schools are encouraged to implement values based curriculum that connect to the poetry and power of the music they select. There is a coffee table style book, beautifully designed, that accompanies the website, which hosts thousands of ethnic Jewish songs from Jews of all backgrounds.
This is a very experiential program. The program combines meeting with music and musicians. Participating children are active learners in the process. They also learn to correctly pronounce the texts in Hebrew. Children bring the experience home and the parents also join in on the music. The programs turnבואו “Piyot” and tfila into a positive & powerful experience for the children.
There are over 1200 piloted schools and kindergartens in Israel. They are looking to expand to other countries.
