Hebrew College

Hebrew College offers an MA in Jewish Education. Whether you are new to the profession or a Jewish educator who wants to move ahead in your career, you will be able to create a program of study that meets your unique interests. This 36-credit, hybrid program, which includes two supervised field experiences, may be completed in two years.

The Master of Jewish Studies degree is a 36-credit program which may be completed full-time or part-time. Students take classes on campus alongside rabbinic, cantorial, and Master of Jewish education students. First year courses focus on introductions to Jewish texts, practice, Hebrew language and Jewish history. In the second year, students focus on either Jewish history and thought or the Jewish textual tradition.

A graduate degree in Jewish education from Hebrew College is more than a teaching credential. It is a graduate degree to help prepare educators to lead, transform and elevate Jewish learning for a pluralistic world. The program focuses on helping students develop two critical skills:

  • The ability to become entrepreneurial in their practice of Jewish Education in a rapidly changing world
  • A deep understanding of the complexity of Jewish life through a pluralist approach to Judaism.

Learn the frameworks of subject-based pedagogy for teaching Torah, rabbinic literature, Jewish history, Jewish thought, and cultural literacy, while exploring educational theories as a means to refine a personal vision of Jewish Education.

Program participant feedback:

“I loved the program at the Hebrew College. I did an MA in Jewish Education. As a secular Israeli, I learned so much about Jewish text and American Judaism which is very different from Israeli Judaism.”
